Item

In logistics, an item is the smallest unit in a product range, identified by a unique identification number, often in the form of a barcode.

There are essentially two methods for storing items:

  • Fixed storage location assignment: Each item is assigned a specific storage location so that it can be found quickly and easily.
  • Dynamic storage location assignment: Items are stored flexibly in available storage locations, resulting in optimal utilization of storage capacity.

ABC analysis

ABC analysis is often used to prioritize items:

  • A items: High value, but low quantity.
  • B items: Medium value and quantity share.
  • C items: Low value share, but high quantity share.

This classification helps to plan resources efficiently and optimize inventories.
