Company transport

Company transport refers to the transport of goods carried out by a company exclusively for its own operational purposes. Transport is carried out using the company's own or rented vehicles and its own personnel. It serves to support the company's main business activities, for example in the areas of production, trade, or assembly. Transport for third parties in return for payment does not take place.

Distinction from commercial freight transport

Unlike commercial road freight transport, own-account transport is not an independent business activity. While commercial transport companies carry out transport for third-party clients in return for payment, own-account transport is subordinate to the actual purpose of the company. It therefore constitutes an internal auxiliary activity and is not offered as a service on the market.

Characteristic requirements

Certain requirements must be met for transport to be legally classified as own-account transport. The goods transported must belong to the company or be directly related to its economic activity, for example through manufacture, purchase, sale, or repair. The vehicles used are operated by the company itself and the drivers are employed by the company.

In addition, the transport must be free of charge and must not compete with commercial transport companies. If these criteria are not met, the transport can be legally classified as commercial freight transport.

Typical areas of application

Company transport is used in many industries, especially for regular transport between company locations. This includes, for example, supplying production facilities with raw materials, distributing goods to company branches, or delivering company-owned materials to construction sites. Return transports, such as empty containers, tools, or operating resources, are also often included.
