Swap body

A swap body is a special type of load carrier used in road freight transport that can be flexibly exchanged between different transport vehicles without having to reload the goods. It is used in particular in general cargo logistics, combined transport, and courier, express, and parcel services ( KEP) to make transport processes more efficient.

Features of a swap body

  • Standardized design: Swap bodies have standardized dimensions and support legs so that they can be parked independently of the towing vehicle.
  • Flexibility: They enable quick separation of the towing vehicle and loading unit, which reduces downtime and facilitates efficient route planning.
  • Versatility: They can be designed as closed boxes, with tarpaulin covers, or as refrigerated bridges to transport different types of goods.

Advantages of swap bodies

  • Fast handling: No time-consuming reloading of goods required.
  • Optimal vehicle utilization: While a swap body is being unloaded or loaded, the tractor unit can already continue on its way with another swap body.
  • Flexibility in transport: Particularly suitable for combined road and rail transport.
  • Cost savings: Reduction of downtime and more efficient use of the vehicle fleet.
