What is a package?

A package is a shipping unit used in logistics and shipping. A distinction is made between pallet and parcel shipping.

Pallet shipping
In pallet shipping, all goods, merchandise or parcels that are on a pallet are considered a package. This also includes lattice boxes, crates or roller containers in which the items can be grouped together. The pallet serves as a carrier for the entire package.

Parcel shipping
In contrast to pallet shipping, each individual parcel is regarded as a separate package in parcel shipping. Each parcel receives its own delivery note and a corresponding load carrier label, which is used for clear identification and tracking during shipping.

Labelling and tracking
Regardless of the shipping method, labelling and traceability of the packages is of crucial importance. All packages receive a separate delivery note containing detailed information about the contents, the sender and the recipient.

Overall, packages are an essential part of shipping and logistics management, as they enable the structured and efficient handling of goods and merchandise. Clear labelling and systematic traceability contribute to a reliable supply chain.
