E-Commerce

The term e-commerce comes from the English language and means electronic commerce. In addition to the sale and dispatch of goods, e-commerce also includes a wide range of services as well as online banking and customer service.

E-commerce offers various advantages for both traders and customers. These include, among others:

  • Fast processing
  • Time and location-independent (orders can, for example, be placed via smartphone while on holiday)
  • Fast exchange between trader and customer, also internationally
  • lower costs than in stationary shops
  • Transparent prices that can be compared

The main disadvantages for companies are the major logistical challenges, such as a high returns rate and high shipping costs, which drive down margins.
