Charge

The word batch comes from the French and translates as "to charge" or "to load".

In logistics, the term batch refers to a specific quantity of similar products that are manufactured and processed in a connected process in batch production.

The unique batch number or lot number, which is printed on the product or its packaging and is usually recorded in databases during production or goods receipt, is used to identify a batch. The number enables the traceability of products and provides information on where, when, by whom and with which machines and raw materials the product was manufactured.

In some cases there is a legal obligation to assign batch numbers. This applies, for example, to medicinal products.
